BrowserStack launched Test Companion on July 29, an agentic AI tool built to move test automation work directly into the developer's IDE rather than a separate testing dashboard. The release extends BrowserStack's existing AI push — a suite of 20 testing-lifecycle agents launched in 2025 and an open-source MCP server that already connects its platform to tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Claude — into a single agent aimed specifically at the authoring and debugging loop.
What it does
Test Companion generates test cases, writes and executes automation scripts, and debugs failing runs across functional, visual, accessibility, and API testing, all without leaving the IDE. BrowserStack says the agent understands a team's existing automation framework, including its page objects, helper functions, and coding conventions, so generated tests follow established patterns rather than introducing a parallel style. Tests validate against BrowserStack's cloud of more than 30,000 real devices and browsers, keeping the underlying execution infrastructure the same even as the authoring workflow moves closer to where developers write code.
Availability
Test Companion is available now as an installable extension from the marketplaces for VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Cursor, and Antigravity. BrowserStack says more than 1,000 teams are already using it, with the company citing up to a 4x improvement in how quickly teams can author, debug, and maintain tests compared to writing them manually.
Why it matters
Test automation has been a natural target for agentic AI: test suites are large, repetitive to maintain, and break constantly as application code changes, making them a clear candidate for delegation to an autonomous agent rather than a chat-based assistant.
