TCS Unit HyperVault to Invest Up to $7.4B in 1GW AI Data Center Campus in India

HyperVault, the AI infrastructure subsidiary of Tata Consultancy Services, announced on September 5 that it will invest up to 700 billion rupees (roughly $7.4 billion) alongside partners to build a 1-gigawatt AI data center campus in Hyderabad, India. The company has secured 264 acres of land in the city's Bharat Future City area, with construction to proceed in phases tied to customer demand.
What's being built
The campus is designed for high-density GPU deployments, targeting frontier AI labs and hyperscalers that need large-scale training and inference capacity rather than conventional enterprise hosting. At full build-out, HyperVault says the site is expected to rank among the largest and most advanced AI infrastructure campuses in India. TCS CEO and Managing Director K Krithivasan framed the project as an extension of the company's "Infrastructure-to-Intelligence" strategy, pairing AI-ready data center capacity with TCS's existing cloud, engineering and enterprise-transformation businesses. The company projects the campus will create around 7,000 direct and indirect jobs.
HyperVault is not a standalone venture: TCS previously partnered with private equity firm TPG to fund a separate $2 billion AI data center project, and the Telangana campus builds on that same infrastructure push, layering TCS's services relationships with hyperscale AI customers on top of the raw compute build-out.

The investment lands amid a broader scramble by Indian conglomerates and state governments to capture a share of global AI compute demand, as hyperscalers and model labs look beyond the US and China for power, land and construction capacity to site new data centers. A 1-gigawatt campus is a substantial commitment even by the standards of 2026's AI infrastructure boom, and TCS's involvement is notable because it comes from an IT services giant rather than a pure-play data center operator or utility — a bet that owning AI-ready infrastructure directly, not just servicing clients who run their workloads elsewhere, will be a meaningful part of its business going forward. For India, the project is also a signal that the country intends to compete for large frontier-scale AI infrastructure investment rather than remain primarily a market for AI services delivered from compute built elsewhere.
